Imdb link transformer wordpress plugin

What’s that ?

IMDb link transformer aims to ease the movies information search process, for both the blog writer and the blog reader. All movies’s names which are tagged between
<!--imdb-->nameMovie<!--/imdb-->
are automatically turned into an url. This url can open a new window (a popup) containing many useful data related to the movie itself. IMDb link transformer transforms all the words you tagged into links to an informative windows. It means one can view the filmmaker, the casting or the goofs that www.imdb.com website includes with one click; it can show either the director or the movie related data (biography, filmography, miscellaneous related to the director; casting, goofs, AKA titles, crew and many others related to the movie).

Example: 2001, a space odyssey (click the link, and browse). Or you can alternatively have a glance to this movie page reviews. The popup contains a (few) words in French, because this blog currently uses that language. But please note Imdb link transformer supports already English and Portuguese; if you want to translate the plugin into your language, use the comment field below or drop me a mail sorry, I hate spam).

This plugin also add displays buttons in writing interfaces (both HTML and Visual).

You can also activate the imdb link transformer widget, which will display information parsed from IMDb straight on your sidebar (or where is attached your widget). After activating the widget, every time you will add the key « imdb-movie-widget » to the custom field to your message *and* the name of the movie to « value », the information related to selected movie will be displayed on the sidebar.

In the same way, this plugin can display many movie’s related data inside a post, when putting a movie name in [ imdblt][ /imdblt] tags (remove spaces). No widget needed, and movie’s data can be displayed anywhere inside posts.

IMDb link transformer is a great tool to inform yourself and to provide many trivias on your post! It is very versatile and multi-functional. Blogger can display data in many ways (popup, widget, straight into the post), and can fine-tune data with admin options and css.

Imdb link transformer v. 2.3.2

How to install

required

1. Unzip and put the « imdb-link-transformer » folder into your plugin folder (usually wp-content/plugins/)
2. Activate the plugin (using the settings tab from admin board)
3. Configure the plugin (settings admin board). Values should be automatically completed, but check them anyway.
4. Create the cache directories (cache and photo directories). The plugin is preconfigured to work with « /wp-content/cache/imdb » and « /wp-content/cache/imdb/images ». Deactivate the cache (advanced – cache management section) otherwise, if you don’t want to use the cache. Either you use or you don’t, the plugin will work – but be aware that without cache, process will take a long time, each time…
5. Give read & write permissions to these two cache directories (see 4).

basic options

0. There are three ways to use IMDb link transformer: popup link creator, widget and inside a post. Each option can be combined with any other, as blogger wants; there is no limitation, feel you free to use all three at once!
1. When writing your post, add either <!–imdb–>nameMovie<!–/imdb–> tags to your movie’s name (if you disabled visual editor, and that you have HTML interface) or click on imdb link transformer’s button after selecting the movie’s name. As a result of this, a link which will open a popup will be created. The popup contains many data and is extensively browsable.
2. Widget can be activated, and used in a way where informations will be displayed inside it. Once widget is activated, look closely to select what you want to display on your sidebar: options are available on imdb admin settings tab. Also add « imdb-movie-widget » or « imdb-movie-widget-bymid » to your message’s custom field; the value you will add will be the movie that will be displayed inside the widget. Check faqs.
3. (new) The plugin can now show IMDb data inside a post. When writing your post, put the movie name inside tags [ imdblt][ /imdblt] (which gives ie [ imdblt]Fight club[ /imdblt]). No third party plugin needed anymore.
You may also edit the « /* —- imdbincluded */ » part from imdb.css to customize layout according your taste.

Fine tuning:

1. The files inc/imdb-movie.inc.php, popup.php, imdb_movie.php and imdb_person.php could be modified to match your theme; check also /css/imdb.css if you want to customize default theme.
2. A (front) page can be created to include all you movies’ related messages. Have a look there : personal critics page.
3. If your language is not included… translate .po file (inside /lang directory) to yours! And send it to me, of course, thus many people would enjoy IMDb in a new language.

Advanced:

1. If you are not interested in having links opening popup windows but look only for informations displayed (both in widget and posts), look for « widget options / Remove popup links? » and switch the option to « yes ». There will be no more links opening a popup (both in widget and posts).

Update

1. Remove the old IMDb link transformer and install the new. Or use the automated update from wordpress.
2. Go to the IMDb link transformer settings, and click on « reset ».

Faq

How to add the imdb widget ?

First, go to « design », « widget », add « imdb widget » to a sidbar (click on « add »), and change the box’s title (in case you don’t want to have the box named « IMDb data »).

Secondly, open an old post (or write a new) and add the key « imdb-movie-widget » to the custom field of your message *and* the name of the movie you want to display to « value ». IMDb link transformer will automatically display into the widget the movie selected.

Another possibility : add to your post the key « imdb-movie-widget-bymid » into the custom field from your message *and* the IMDb ID for the movie you want to be displayed on your sidebar to « value ». Instead of looking for a name, IMDb link transformer would directly display the movie you want to display. Very handy when your movie’s name doesn’t work as it should (if there are many movies with the same name, the wrong movie is displayed, etc). To get the movie’s IMDb id, search for a title on IMDb website, look at the adress bar for a « ttXXXXX » section, keep only the number part (XXXXX) and add result to the « value » meta field. However, in this specific case, do not mix with an « imdb-movie-widget » key neither add several « imdb-movie-widget-bymid » fields. Only the first one will be displayed.

How to display movie data inside my message?

When writing your post, put the movie name inside tags [ imdblt][ /imdblt] (remove spaces).

I don’t want to have links to a popup window!

Look for « imdb settings / widget options / Remove popup links? » and switch the option to « yes ». No links anymore, for both widget and inside a post.

Can I suggest a feature/report a bug regarding the plugin?

Of course, let a message right here.

How to support ?

Under the GPL licence, « IMDb link transformer » is based on the classes coming from imdbphp project. However, a huge customization work has been required to implement it to wordpress; many new features have been developed as well. If you feel somewhat generous, please click paypal image (from plugin settings).

Known issues

1. When the imdb widget is put under another widget display a list (ie, « recent posts » plugin), the widget won’t display what it should. Actually, it won’t display anything. **Workaround:** put the imdb widget one level above the widget calling a list.

2. If you activate both « Display highslide popup » option and in Next-Gen Gallery’s highslide effect option, NGG picture display will be broken. **Workaround:** Do not use « Display highslide popup » option or use another effect option for NGG.

3. Moviepilot is not working anymore. But Izzy’s working on it.

4. Biographies are no more retrieved. Izzy’s warned.

Before asking for help or improvements here

1/ Have you read the extensive help provided with the plugin? Have you had a look at FAQs and How-to, from « help » IMDb LT menu?
2/ Please explain your issue and report the basics: what’s the name of the movie you have a problem with, is the issue happening for all movies or only for the one you mention, which imdb address do you use (akas.imdb.com, french imdb, uk imdb), have you tried the « Debug mode » (general options-advanced-misc-debug mode), what are your IMDb LT, PHP, apache and wordpress versions, have you tried to unactivate all your plugins but IMDB LT, etc.

Please bear with me, I won’t answer messages which don’t comply with these points.

  1. To the many people waiting for a new release fixing the picture’s retrieve issue… sorry for the long delay. But the waiting was worth of it, new release should fix the problem.

    Last development release is found here. Please report.

  2. hi, is there anyway i can set up the imdb links to open up in a new window, rather than a pop-up window?

  3. hey mate, back again,
    i got problem with this http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0189171/
    it cannot get data from this item.

  4. First, thanks for this great plugin.

    Would it be possible to add the ‘Cinematography By’ details to the extract? Thanks.

  5. @Zarban & Anders: current development release implements last imdbphp release. You shouldn’t experiment any issue anymore.

    Until next IMDb change 🙂

    • I got the link to the development version from your messages below and installed it, but it didn’t seem to have any effect. The posters still didn’t get cached or displayed. I tried deleting the cache again, but that didn’t help.

      • Hi Zarban,

        I tried right now, and everything seems to work flawlessy.

        Would you mind name a movie’s name you can’t get its poster? I’ll try on my own. I just tried with « Matrix » for instance, and the poster is got…

      • I just re-downloaded the development release and reinstalled. First, I deactivated and deleted all the files from the previous version. Then I uploaded and activated the new version. I left all the defaults and didn’t change any file code.

        I still get a lot of « Sorry, no result found for this reference » messages. But mostly I get the « No Photo Available » image, including for The Matrix. The cache settings page says « Folder exists. Permissions OK. » for both cache folders.

        In the cache, I see 4 thumbnails and 3 big image. The thumbnails are Halloween (1978), Fright Night, O Brother, and Terminator TV series. The big images are Phantom Menace, Evil Dead II, and Star Trek.

        The entries for the movies that have thumbnails display the « No Photo Available » message. There are three entries for Evil Dead II. The one that has IMDb-Movie-Widget set to « Evil Dead II: Dead by Dawn » displays correctly. The one where it is set to « Evil Dead II » displays the « Sorry » error. The one where IMDb-Movie-Widget-bymid is set to « 0092991 » also displays correctly.

        However, when I switch the settings to « Display only thumbnail: Yes » then the movies with thumbnails display correctly and the movies with big images do not. Regardless, no other entries are creating cached images.

        I’ve switched it back to « Display only thumbnail: No ». When I created a copy of 0077651.jpg (Halloween) and renamed it 0077651_big.jpg, the image for Halloween started appearing correctly.

      • Thanks for this huge debug report.

        I’ll have a deep look in that asap; I’m currently quite busy with RL, and it seems like this issue is going to take me some spare time 🙂

        But let me to thank you for you debuging process, Zarban!

      • No problem. After a few days, I started seeing the big images being cached and showing up correctly. I don’t actually want the big images; I want the thumbnails. So I changed the settings, but the thumbnails aren’t showing up. I’ll see if that changes over the next few days. I may also download the cached images and convert them to thumbnails myself with a macro.

  6. I love this plugin. It really makes my movie-related site pop, and I waited eagerly for the new version. However, I see a lot of entries now produce the error « Sorry, no result found for this reference » when using the imdb-movie-widget metakey. The entries that use imdb-movie-widget-bymid are fine. For example, all 4 entries for The Warriors have an imdb-movie-widget metakey of « The Warriors » but get no result. The entries for How to Be and March of the Penguins have an imdb-movie-widget metakey of « How to Be » and « March of the Penguins », and those work fine. I’ve tried Izzy, Sevec, and Moonface, and the default and UK IMDb, but I get the same results.

    When I turn on debugging, those entries that use -bymid are fine. Those that use the imdb-movie-widget either display the error or display the correct IMDb entry with the debugging message like this:

    cache_read: requested file ‘march+of+the+penguins.search’ not found in cache dir ‘/home/content/z/a/r/zarban/html/wp-content/cache/imdb/’
    imdbsearch::results() called. Using URL http://akas.imdb.com/find?q=March+of+the+Penguins;mx=20;tt=on
    No immediate response body – we are redirected.
    New URL: http://akas.imdb.com/title/tt0428803/

    Also, I have the widget set to display thumbnails, but some entries have images that are quite large (March of the Penguins, Clash of the Titans, The Wolfman). It would be great to be able to confine them to icon size.

    • What a debugging report 🙂 Not used to get so many details, thanks for taking so much time.

      The issue you experience is related to the cache; IMDb website has been completely revamped, therefore IMDb plugin had to be adapted. It reads data differently now, and when it tries to read « old » cache, it doesn’t understand anymore how to read them 🙂 The good news is you only have to delete the cache to get it working back; the bad news is you should have to delete all the cache…

      Alternatively, you may either wait for the automatical renew of the cache delete the cache (one month by default) or delete the specific movie’s cache not displayed (for instance, the march of the penguins) turning imdblt cache option « Show advanced cache details » to yes and selecting the movie. That latter would work for a small-medium sized website; I fear your huge site, with so many movies cached, would crash if turning the cache details option on yes! I think you’re better delete all the cache, but you can experiment the other way. If it crash, it only will display a timeout error, after all, and you could turn back the option to « no ».

      Regarding the thumbnail size, you have turned « Display only thumbnail » to yes, as I see… well, I have to look at the code, but it wasn’t coded in that way. I’ll look if I can do something.

      BTW, quite happy to see my plugin so deeply used on your website. It’s amazing what you’ve done! Very complete website. But, if I’m allowed to give you an advice: it would be nice to be able to get home (root page) straightly. Usually done by putting a link to home on the top picture, which get the user back to http://www.zarban.com/

      Stay tuned.

      • Thanks for your response! I deleted the cache, and the plugin now is able to find all the films. However, it now cannot find images for any entry. I’ve tried turning off the cache, turning off icons, changing search variant and IMDB address, and a few other things without success. I also changed the permissions on the cache folder. The message now says « Permissions OK » where it previously said « Check permissions » but it isn’t caching any images.

        Also, I took your advice. Previously only the « Zarban.com » part of the header on my site was linked to the home page, which was not obvious. But now the whole header image is linked.

      • I’m experiencing the sam issue to Zarban in that new posters won’t show. Just shows the default blank image, despite the fact that the film has a IMDb image. All other data is displayed fine.

      • @Zarban: and what about development release, with the functionality you asked for? Does it work as you like?

        @Zarban & Anders: for a few months, pictures are got erratically when using firefox browser . Somedays it was working, somedays it wasn’t. But with previous release, you had the solution to use IE instead Firefox; with current releases, both Firefox and IE are impacted with this very unpredictable behaviour. My advice, for now (but I reported this issue again to imdbphp coder), is… to try again tommorow. And if still doesn’t work, the day after tommorow. That’s a strange answer, quite frustrating, but I can’t give you another. For now, at least.

      • Yes, I’ve installed the development release. When I first deleted the cache (with the previous release), it all seemed to work fine for a few minutes except for the image sizing problem. Then I noticed that I was no longer getting images at all. I installed the development release and saw no difference. I do notice that there is a slight difference in the size of the default image when I turn off the icon setting, so the sizing code is probably working, but without any actual posters, I can’t be sure.

        As you can tell, I’ve re-added my modifications to the plugin to put the poster in a picture frame, shorten the role names (gets rid of the episode counts for TV show characters), and turn off the director credit if there are more than 4 directors (TV shows). I just noticed my picture frame code is broken in IE6; I’ll have to fix that.

        I know IMDb is changing things on you, and everyone’s site is different, so I can be patient. Do you have a PayPal account for donations? I’d be happy to keep you happy about continuing to update the plugin. 🙂

      • Then I noticed that I was no longer getting images at all. I installed the development release and saw no difference.

        I realized my question about the development release was out of purpose if you couldn’t get pictures; but it was much time after sending my answer 🙂

        On my side, IE6 renders flawlessy the frame. Nice use of the plugin you make!

        I know IMDb is changing things on you, and everyone’s site is different, so I can be patient.

        We are bound to wait, right now! But Izzy (imdbphp libraries makers) is looking to how to correct this issue. Quite busy at this time, but since he’s very skillful, I don’t have any doubt, he’ll find a workaround.

        Do you have a PayPal account for donations? I’d be happy to keep you happy about continuing to update the plugin. 🙂

        You’ll find the link either in help/help imdblt menu or by following « Donate to this plugin » on wordpress plugin’s website 🙂

  7. Hi!
    Awesome plugin! But, today the movie title suddenly outputs (-1). How weird is that? It happens to all new entries (but worked fine a couple of days ago). See screenshot here: http://grab.by/6Ohn

    If I uncheck ‘Year’ on the options page, the title is blank. Anyone else experiencing this? Maybe it’s fixed in v2.0.3 (mentioned in the changelog)? If so, when will this update be released?

    Thanks again for a super plugin – movie blogging suddenly became fun again!

    • I have this problem too. It’s probably because IMDb is changing stuff on their site, breaking compatability…

    • Awesome plugin! But, today the movie title suddenly outputs (-1).

      It’s certainly be related to what said Marc.

      Development release can be found here. Based on last imdbphp libraries, should correct noted issues.

      I don’t have any estimated time of release to share; I release new versions only when I’ve been through extensive tests…

  8. Hia,

    Thanks for all quick responses and bla bla 🙂
    I was wondering if you could add the movie title to the taxonomy as well :), I know that there is currently issue with the dates so we could wait a bit, but going forward with my blog now I would like to have the title as taxonomy as well 🙂

    • ah and yeah nice avatar I’ve got here – washed brain

    • Titles as taxonomies

      It wouldn’t be very complicate to do, but… what is exactly the goal? I don’t see any purpose to have title as a taxonomy…

      ah and yeah nice avatar I’ve got here – washed brain

      That’s Homer Simpson 🙂

      • Related posts by movie title :), the connection could be even the movie ID.
        Something that make connection with the movie at all, but not by actors, directors and etc.

      • Title as taxonomy added (download development release from imdblt wordpress website).

        I hope you will post the result, I’m curious to see this kind of use…

      • Where can you download the development release? I don’t see a link, and it’s not on the WordPress site?

  9. This is an excellent mod I have to say, really cool. I found a bug though: I am trying to display a movie’s country inside a post, but it doesn’t show up. I activated Country under What To Display, but nothing. Using the latest version of both this plugin and WordPress.

    • IMDb website has completely been revamped; as soon as Izzy’s libraries are released, a new IMDb link transformer plugin will also be released.

      Sorry for the waiting.

  10. Thank for your reactivity.
    After the reset, it is working fine. Thank

  11. Hi,
    I use your plug-in since a while now, and thinks a lot for your good work. I have a (very little) problem whit the last release 2.0.2. In the plugin options, section display order, the new function trailer doesn’t appears, I can’t choose any location. Nevertheless, the trailer appears in the widget sidebar at the top, just after the title…

    • Hi feilong,

      Glad to read you find the plugin useful.

      Update

      1. Remove the old IMDb link transformer and install the new. Or use the automated update from wordpress.
      2. Go to the IMDb link transformer settings, and click on « reset ».

      Did you click on reset?

  12. This plugin is getting better and better 🙂 Moreover I am happy that I could put something from myself as well 🙂 🙂
    I am planning to make translation foo BG and CZ and as soon as I am done I will send the translation
    I was just wondering if we could have the release date as taxonomy as well, but not in one field but day month year.

    • just one more comment – using the beta now and is working fine 🙂

      • This plugin is getting better and better 🙂 Moreover I am happy that I could put something from myself as well 🙂 🙂

        Thanks for these kind words! I try to do my best, but since I’m not a developer, I try to do as much as I can with my limited knowledge.

        And does not hesitate to share your comments and desires; the plugin does more or less what I want. Since then, only users can still improve it.

        I am planning to make translation foo BG and CZ and as soon as I am done I will send the translation

        Great to hear that! Plugin is (partially) translated to spanish & brazilian only, entireley in french, which is not enough. If you find the courage to translate it both in bulgarian and czech, it would be really nice. A huge work, though…

        I was just wondering if we could have the release date as taxonomy as well, but not in one field but day month year.

        Unfortunately, the plugin is using IMDb libraries which cannot handle day and month. I’ll ask to the developer if he can improve this limitation.

        just one more comment – using the beta now and is working fine

        Thanks for the feedback. It will allow me to release the new version next days. Still working on help section, but after that, I’m done.

  13. UM>>>>> I’m not getting any photos from the IMDB site.. Any specific reason.. Or some kind of remedy or easy fix for the troubleshoot?

    • Known issues

      1. Sometimes, movie’s picture is not displayed. Still investing to find why. When turning « debug mode » to on, an error « *photoerror* http:[…] Content Type is ‘text/html’ is displayed. **Workaround:** Load the page using… Internet explorer. Only once, hopefully.

  14. hey mate, this is a great plugins, really awesome
    this is bad to only have genre as taxonomies, do you able to add option to taxonomy actors, director,….
    as suggestion add a check box to # What to display (in admin panel) to let admin check which one go Taxonomy not only genres.

  15. Very nice plugin.

    Just one question : is it possible to retrieve « Release Date » from IMDB

    thanks

    • Next release will include a release date movie detail.

      You may already test this new feature downloading beta release 2.0.2, from wordpress website.

  16. this what happen sorry about before

    Error message (when trying adding a post) btw it posts
    Warning: Cannot modify header information – headers already sent in /home/fswarez/domains/fswarez.org/public_html/wordpress/wp-includes/pluggable.php on line 890

    • It could be related to a IIS bug : http://support.microsoft.com/kb/q176113/

      But also to a plugin conflict. Try to unactivate every plugin (but IMDb link transformer) until you don’t get this message anymore. Once the plugin in conflict is identified, give me its name and I’ll look into to see if I can find a workaround.

  17. i’m faing this problem since i installed the plugin

  18. Hi, the plugin is really good, but I can not find a way to put the link for the picture so I could read that field later for my homepage ( I don’t want to have the picture within the post ( in the post there should be only information for the movie that I could get from the widget ).

    • Well, you’re better linking imdb’s picture…

    • If you’re using the plugin’s cache, you’ll be able to find all the previously viewed imdb posters in your wp-contents/imdb/images folder. Each poster is named according to its imdb id. eg. 0417741.jpg.

      With this in mind, you can use the default custom field « imdb-movie-widget-bymid » to display the poster. As long as the custom field has a valid value, you can use this code anywhere within the loop to display the poster for the relevant post:

      ID, ‘imdb-movie-widget-bymid’, true); ?>

      I hope that makes sense!
      I use this all over my film review website, http://www.cutprintreview.com.

      If i’m working outside the loop, I use the get_posts template tags to call the relevant posts from a specific category.

      See here: http://codex.wordpress.org/Template_Tags/get_posts

      • Whoops, the code wouldn’t show correctly in my last comment. Here it is without brackets.

        Custom field call in php:

        php $movieid = get_post_meta($post->ID, ‘imdb-movie-widget-bymid’, true);

        Display the poster image in html:

        img src= »/wp-content/imdb/images/’.$movieid.’.jpg »

      • Nice one, Anders 🙂

  19. Hi, nice plugin!
    i was asking myself just one question: is it possibile to choose from wich localized version of IMBD retrieve information or it just takes it from the .com imdb?

    I havo to built a site for an italian Movie Teathre and I would like to catch informations about the films from IMDB.it, because infos are in italian.

    Last thing, if i will use this plug in i will be surely available for an italian translation of it.

    • Ciao bluantinoo,

      Theoretically, it should work switching « General Options -> Advanced -> Imdb address » to « italian IMDb ».

      But actually, it doesn’t work as expected… Only (very) basic information is retrieved.

      I’ll have a look on it, and let you know if I find something.

      Feel you free to translate the plugin into italian 🙂

      • Well, after debating with Izzy (imdbphp libraries makers), localized imdb sites doesn’t allow to retrieve expected imdb informations. Changing this behaviour will need a complete rewriting of the libraries, what he’s not going to do.

        Sorry.

  20. On my popup it stopped showing images and it just says photo not available is there any way to fix that?

    • Could be related to this known issue :

      1. Sometimes, movie’s picture is not displayed. Still investing to find why. When turning « debug mode » to on, an error « *photoerror* http:[…] Content Type is ‘text/html’ is displayed. **Workaround:** Load the page using… Internet explorer. Only once, hopefully.

  21. Hi,
    This is an amazing plugin, but I have one request.
    I use the plugin’s external call feature and would like to be able to use the IMDb ID instead of the film name to call a film. This would allow for better accuracy (which has been a problem with the name search).
    Could this be added into a future release?

    Thank you,
    Anders.

    • Hi Anders,

      By « I use the plugin’s external call feature », you mean you use imdb_external_call function, I presume. If it is, you can write your function this way :

      $imdblt->imdb_external_call( », ‘external’, ‘IMDb ID’)

      Never tested this way, but it should work.

      • Thanks for the quick reply Jcv!
        Unfortunately though, that trick doesn’t seem to work. The PHP isn’t broken, but the plugin does return this error:
        « Sorry, no result found for this reference »

        It doesn’t matter what ID I place in there, the error persists. I’ve made sure the ID’s are entered correctly without the « tt », e.g.1325004

        Here is an example page with the error (look beneath the thumbnail pic on the right): http://cutprintreview.com/reviews/2-stars/the-twilight-saga-eclipse-his-review/

        Any ideas?

        Cheers,
        Anders

      • I’m not sure I understand why you use imdb_external_call() function instead the ready-made one ( (imdltid) imdbid (/imdltid) ) BUT there was a bug indeed. A corrected release is available on

        http://www.ikiru.ch/blog/wp-content/files/imdb-link-transformer.php-201

        Replace your own imdb-link-transformer.php with this one, and report if it works 🙂

      • The new file worked perfectly. Thank you!

        The reason I do not use the shortcut tags is because the plugin is not being displayed inside the loop (although it may look like it is). It’s actually called externally in the single.php and a custom field is feeding the IMDB id of the relevant movie into it. This saves me some time since these IMDb id’s are reproduced in many instances around the website.

        Thanks again for your help Jcv. You usually have to pay for support that quick and helpful! Your plugin is easily the most valued I have on my film review website. I’m planning on getting a Paypal account soon and would be glad to donate something to you for all your effort.

        Cheers,
        Anders.

      • The new file worked perfectly. Thank you!

        Glad to read that!

        Thanks again for your help Jcv. You usually have to pay for support that quick and helpful! Your plugin is easily the most valued I have on my film review website. I’m planning on getting a Paypal account soon and would be glad to donate something to you for all your effort.

        I don’t want to discourage a so great generosity 🙂 but I have to admit I enjoy myself so much form the open source community… My great pleasure is to know you find the plugin useful!

        BTW, next release will integrate last modifications, and when you’ll update you’ll (you should) enjoy same functionalities.

  22. I use auto-post plugin with template [im]xx[/] …..

    I was wondering how I could extract the Genre so I could use it after that as keyword and sort the post in category by category

    • I thought many times about this functionnality.

      Unfortunately, it would require a lot of development time, a spare time I don’t have :/

      • yeah I understand,
        then if I make some other widget template that has only the genre, how I could import the text to custom field
        that should be easy, but well I am not that good in coding

      • Well, it’s not that easy, as movie’s information are not written in the post itself, but generated instead.

        It should be possible if using inc/imdb-movie.inc.php file, genre part; report that very part on your widget, and voilà 🙂

      • Next release will include a new Genre’s use. Using wordpress’ taxonomy, one should be able to use movie’s categories as tags/taxonomies.

        Hope you’ll find usefull.

      • 🙂 great looking forward to the new version 🙂

  23. Hi,
    is there a way to stop google from crawling this plugin? google has been crawling the plugin and saying page not found.

  24. Les images s’affichent pas!
    The images won’t display!

    The more I try, le moins ca marche…

    In Debug mode I get:
    imdbsearch::results() called. Using URL http://akas.imdb.com/find?q=The+Omega+Man;mx=20;more=tt;nr=1&restrict=Movies+only&GO.x=0&GO.y=0&GO=search;tt=1;tt=on

    Is this a common problem? I already tried playing with options and creating the cache file, but it just won’t display anything else but a placeholder thumbnail or an image title.

    I know IMDb tries to protect its image more these days: no right click, etc…

    De l’aide s’il vous plais.

    • Try to load your page first with Internet explorer. This is a new issue, reported a few days ago to the imdbphp libraries author.

      Let’s see if it can be modified…

  25. Lol !!! the tag i said was « !more ».

  26. Don’t put the 2 letters « t » before the number and will be okey …

    And now my problem :

    i want to hide the description of the movie after the movie pics in the index page but i dunno where to put the tag «  » … can someone help me please ?? thx.

  27. Salut !!!

Merci d’avance.

    wordpress version 2.9.2
    Fresh install.

  28. Hey there, first of thank you for your work, this is an amazing plugin, it’s so good that I’m amaze it is free.

    I would like to ask you if there is any way (easy way) to create a page for a person/actor like it creates for the movie.

  29. Hello,

    My widget is causing errors all of a sudden. It was working fine a couple days ago. I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling but can not get it to fix the problem.

    It shows like this:

    Fatal error: Call to a member function imdbid() on a non-object in /home/richyws/public_html/thevideostop.com/wp-content/plugins/imdb-link-transformer/inc/imdb-movie.inc.php on line 52

    Example: http://thevideostop.com/movies/cah-trailer/

    Look at the right for the widget.
    Any ideas ? Thanks for a great plugin!

    • Hi,

      I think as plugin suddenly stopped working it is related to a plugin conflict. Try to unactivate last plugin(s) installed.

      Look if it makes any difference.

      • Hi, Thanks for the quick reply.

        The plugin stopped working without any additional plugin being installed. It was the most recent plugin to be added.

        It worked for at least a week and then just stopped for no reason.

      • That’s strange. A plugin shouldn’t just suddenly work, if it previously used to work.

        1/ Did you update wordpress ? What wordpress do you use?
        2/ What imdb link transformer release do you use?
        3/ What php version is installed?
        4/ What value is inserted into customized field? If « imdb-movie-widget », what movie’s name exactly did you add? If « imdb-movie-widget-bymid », what movie’s id did you exactly add?

        Also, would you kindly test with the next plugin release http://downloads.wordpress.org/plugin/imdb-link-transformer.zip to check if this wrong behaviour is still there?

      • I just tried upgrading, and I get the same result. The plugin works fine if you give it an ID, but it produces the « non-object » error if you give it a title. The problem seems to be that the search for a name produces no result, so in imdb-movie.inc.php, $results[$nbarrayresult] gets set to «  », which causes the error when $midPremierResultat gets set. If I test for «  » right before $midPremierResultat gets set and manually set it to « 0034583 », it displays Casablanca instead of the error.

        If feels to me like the call to the IMDb function just isn’t working for title calls (an IMDb problem, not a problem with the plugin). But it works for other people, I suppose it must be something else.

      • The problem seems to be that the search for a name produces no result

        That’s also my guess. But since I can’t reproduce this bug on my side, I really need someone answer my 3 other questions from point 72.1.2

      • 1/ Did you update wordpress ? What wordpress do you use?
        I updated WordPress to 2.9.2 when it came out a few weeks ago.
        2/ What imdb link transformer release do you use?
        I’m using 1.1.14.1, which I’ve modified to display differently and which has worked very well up until March 15. But I’ve tried 1.5 without modifications and get the same results.
        3/ What php version is installed?
        Zarban.com is hosted by GoDaddy on a Linux server with PHP v5.x. It uses 1 MySQL database v5.0. I’m at 64% of my space allotment and just 1% of my traffic allotment.
        4/ What value is inserted into customized field? If “imdb-movie-widget”, what movie’s name exactly did you add? If “imdb-movie-widget-bymid”, what movie’s id did you exactly add?

        Every post on my site is a film, so I’ve looked at numerous examples.

        Using « imdb-movie-widget-bymid » seems to work for most films, but for a few, I get a blank image and « -1 » as the title, such as « 0046876 » (Creature from the Black Lagoon). However, in my modified version of the plugin, I have the title and image link to the IMDb page (using « $movie->imdbid() ») and that link works, even tho the title is displayed as « -1 ».
        Using « imdb-movie-widget » seems NOT to work for any film (« The Day the Earth Stood Still (1951) », for example). Currently, I have the plugin check to see if the search result is blank and, if it is, replace it with the ID for Casablanca. At least that way my pages aren’t broken. If I remove the check, it returns the error again for all entries that use « imdb-movie-widget ». You can see exactly what text is in the « imdb-movie-widget » field: it’s displayed on each page as the text of the « Listed under » link.

        I’m starting to wonder my hosting provider upgraded the PHP or Linux or something on my server and that caused the issue.

      • When I read you’re using version 1.1.14.1 (7 months old!), I thought I had found the culprit. But to my great amazement, such an old release still works on my side.

        I can’t see any issue in your specifications. I hardly can believe that a php/mysql update could broke that way the plugin. Especially when doing a google search shows me many websites having same error…

        1. I’m wondering how do you use cache; is it indeed activated? If yes, how much time (what preferences’ value) do you keep it? Issue could be a imdb’s ban consequence. I’ve never been banned (even if I do extensively my plugin tests on my own website) but some time ago, someone complained about having been banned from IMDb; it could be an answer, since you don’t get any result anymore when you use search function.

        2. Try last beta plugin release (follow the link I previously gave), which is almost done (and broadly tested). It already implements many of modifications you need (remove all links, select order to display) and it allows to get rid of imdb if wished. You’ll only have to ask for an ID to Moviepilot, but you could definitely resolve the question of beeing banned (or not) from IMDb.

      • I started to wonder about the cache earlier today and tried deleting some files that seemed unnecessary (I don’t display plot details, for example). This had no effect, but just now I turned off the « Use cache? » function, and immediately every entry works again.

        Re: upgrades. I’ve been watching the change log to decide when to upgrade to the latest version and move my modifications to that one.

        I’ve modified the plugin to automatically create an « imdb-movie-widget » entry based on the category of the post (my categories are film titles; I manually create an « imdb-movie-widget » or « imdb-movie-widget-bymid » entry only when the automatic method calls up the wrong movie.) I also reformat and abbreviate the actor and director credits, put a frame around the poster, and link the title and poster to the appropriate IMDb page.

        I really love this plugin. It’s absolutely one of the best parts of my site.

      • Turning off « Use cache » did the trick? Great, I’ll add this workaround to the FAQs. I’m happy to know you got the plugin to work again 🙂

        1. But could you say me if you turn on « Use cache » again, if it doesn’t work again? And also what are the cache’s preferences you have? Please, give me these answers, to allows me to update FAQs.
        (For your information: a lot of work has been done regarding cache in the last releases, with many new options and new ways to handle it. Among them, you can delete cache from admin interface.)

        2. I’m also open to implement new functions according to user needs. I can already say last release fulfill some of your needs:
        a/ A poster’s frame could be added to last releases, very easily: a customized css file can be added in you theme folder, and that very css would be called before the « official » one. This way, you may maintain your customized style preferences, even through plugin updates!
        b/ You can get rid of every link automatically added to actor, director (the link which opens a popup). An option removes every internal link.
        c/ You can select what movie’s detail (actor, director, user comment) add and remove. You also can choose the display’s order (actor first, poster in second, …)
        Additionnaly, I could add an option which would add automatically a widget linked to the post’s title. That would be quite easy, since it was the first way the plugin used to work 🙂 Just send me the modification you made to the code, and I will implement it.
        However, I don’t think (but I could be wrong) credits’ abbreviation and link to IMDb would fit wide users needs. I think that’s too much specific, and don’t think to implement it.

        Anyway, that’s great you got the plugin working again. And thanks for you kind comment 🙂

      • Yes, resetting « Use cache? » to Yes still allows the plugin to work.

        « Store cache? » Yes
        « Use cache? » Yes
        « Cache expire » 2592000
        « Convert to ZIP » Yes
        « Use ZIP » Yes

        However, I realize now that I also changed the IMDb address from « us.imdb.com » to « akas.imdb.com ». When I switch back to « us.imdb.com », the plugin does not work again.

        Perhaps my site got banned from us.imdb.com for overuse? I get about 400 page views a day, and all the post pages use the IMDb plugin.

        Your new features sound great. I’ll try upgrading again and modifying the new version for my needs; it shouldn’t take much.

        I find that linking the poster image and movie title to the IMDb entry is one of the best things about my implementation. It lets me jump to IMDb for more detailed cast info and so on. But I think few people would need the plugin to guess the movie from the post or category title, the way I use it. And abbreviating the roles was just my way of making the data fit better. I got annoyed seeing « Lieutenant Able » and « Detective Baker » in the credits, so I make them « Lt. Able » and « Det. Baker ». I also skip the director when there are more than 3, so TV shows don’t show a giant list.

        I’ll send you my code and you can take or leave what you think others might like.

    • I have the same problem. On March 15, it worked fine. On March 16, it started producing the above error, but only for name searches (imdb-movie-widget). ID searches (imdb-movie-widget-bymid) are generally fine.

      I’m sure I didn’t change or upgrade anything or install any new plugin. I tried installing an older version but the result was the same. I have not tried installing the new version yet because I have modified the code to display differently.

      • Zarban, THANK YOU! Changing the URL from « us.imdb.com » to « akas.imdb.com » FIXED THE PROBLEM! You’re AWESOME! Thank you thank you thank you!

  30. Hi,

    I’m having a problem with this plugin in the fact that the ‘imdb’ folder is always getting deleted from the server. I’m using Wp-supercache which could be conflicting but i’m not sure. Could anyone help explain what’s going on?

    Thanks

  31. Hi,
    I really like this plugin and I’m using it on a book reviews blog to give also data about those movies related to books.
    I updated the plugin yesterday using the automatic update in the plugin menu, but when I try to re-activate I get this error:

    Parse error: syntax error, unexpected T_CONST, expecting T_OLD_FUNCTION or T_FUNCTION or T_VAR or ‘}’ in /home/sites/amazingreaders.net/public_html/wp-content/plugins/imdb-link-transformer/config.php on line 414

    Is there something I can do to fix the problem?
    Thanks!

    • Ciao Alessia, un altro lettore di Mishima qua 🙂

      You certainly use a PHP version prior to v5.

      Remove the entire line 414, which should look like that:

      const pilot_imdbfill = NO_ACCESS;

      and report if it fixed your issue. I will adapt next version if it does.

      • Hi, sorry for my long silence.
        I looked everywhere in you plugin files to find the line you mentioned, but I couldn’t find it. Could you please tell me which file I should edit?
        Sorry but I don’t know PHP very much^^;;

  32. A quick new release, still at beta stage since I’ve not been able to go through my usual quality process completly:

    http://downloads.wordpress.org/plugin/imdb-link-transformer.zip

    It should correct many issues, especially the ones related to missing datas. This release already uses next libraries developed by Izzy, which will be a major change to the plugin. But Izzy seems currently very busy (as I am), so I release « as it » the beta plugin.

    Don’t expect a quick new release, except if « easy » bugs are found 🙂

  33. hello, i tried to install this plugin but whenever i try to get to the options page i see this message
    « You do not have sufficient permissions to access this page. »

    If i upload it on a live website it gets activated and works fine. The problem is on a local installation.

    I tried it on one that has many other successfully installed plugins and this is the only one i get this message!!!

    any workaround?? tia

  34. Retour PingIMDBPHP: librería PHP para acceder al API de IMDB | Adobe User Group Granada (trial)

  35. Retour PingIMDBPHP: librería PHP para acceder al API de IMDB | Sentido Web

  36. So, are you planning on fixing this to work with wordpress, or not?
    Currently, this does nothing but give errors when the tag [imdblt] is used!!!

    • Hi,

      Some previous issues you mentionned are fixed in development release.

      Shamefully, I don’t have enough spare time to finish that very release right now.

      However, tag [imdlt] should work; I’ve not been able to reproduce the same (wrong) behaviour on my side…

      Sorry, but can’t manage right now either to implement new fonctions or go into debug process 🙁

      • I guess that just because YOU can’t reproduce the error means nobody else can, right? WRONG! The error is there!

        On further investigation, YOUR ADDON caused my ip address to be blocked by IMDB. Yup, that’s right, blocked. So, your addon does not process information properly, and when no results are returned, does not PROPERLY identify this.

        Why was the ip blocked? Too many connections, which means your plugin was not caching things properly. Better yet, your plugin did not NOTIFY individuals of this problem, merely threw out a php error which kills the page itself.

        Learn to program properly, NEVER assume anything is given, and ALWAYS give an error if something doesn’t exist, INSTEAD of forcing php to kill the page!

      • I never wrote that because I couldn’t reproduce the error, there was no error. I wrote I don’t have time to « go into debug process ».

        If you are not pleased with my plugin, I don’t give a shit, that’s something I mainly develop for myself, and certainly not to get that kind of rude comment.

        Delete my plugin from you blog and never come again. Thanks.

  37. Hi, I’m trying to call the function into my side bar and all that I get is:
    Fatal error: Call to a member function imdbid() on a non-object in /home/…/wp-content/plugins/imdb-link-transformer/inc/imdb-movie.inc.php on line 52
    (i just replaced here the full path with « … »)
    I use
    or – in both ways I get the same error message. My function file is a bit strange to me but as I am not familiar with php, here it is the whole file:
    post->ID;
    $imdballmeta = get_post_meta($filmid, ‘imdb-movie-widget-bymid’, false);
    echo «  »;
    include (‘wp-content/plugins/imdb-link-transformer/inc/imdb-movie.inc.php’);
    echo «  »;
    }

    I also tried adding « ?> » at the end of the file but this didn’t change the message. I tried calling the function in the sidebar file and in the single post file – the same message.

    Thank you.

    • I realise that no all of the lines appear in my previous post however, the error message text that I get is full. if you need more, please let me know.
      The function file looks like:
      << ? php (here i put some extra space and post->ID;
      $imdballmeta = get_post_meta($filmid, ‘imdb-movie-widget-bymid’, false);
      echo «  »;
      include (‘wp-content/plugins/imdb-link-transformer/inc/imdb-movie.inc.php’);
      echo «  »; (also extra space but i remove it in the file)
      }

      • i will try again:
        after the opening post->ID;
        $imdballmeta = get_post_meta($filmid, ‘imdb-movie-widget-bymid’, false);
        echo «  »;
        include (‘wp-content/plugins/imdb-link-transformer/inc/imdb-movie.inc.php’);
        echo «  »;
        }

    • for calling the functiion I used :
      external_imdb (); or imdb_external_call();
      in php tag

  38. anyway to use your shortcode withing a template?

    • What exactly do you mean by within a template?

      The plugin can be included both in sidebar and a post. This latter is achieved by including the movie’s name [ imdblt][ /imdblt] tags.

      Let me know if it fullfills your needs.

      • Well if you check out jeffwithag.com/misc/ you will see Movies and Movie Library. Movies is a page with me manually including each movie surrounded by shortcodes < ! --imdb--> and < ! --/imdb-->. Works as expected. Movie Library is a template which queries my database and automatically outputs the movie titles. I am trying to add your shortcodes around the move title value, but so far no success.

        I believe I either need to know what function to call or I need to know the format of your plugin within a « do_shortcode(‘shortcodename’) » call.

        To clarify, I just want to surround each movie name queried with your plugin shortcode so that any movie in the list can be clicked and a popup would be shown.

        Any direction would be appreciated.

        Thanks,
        Geoff

      • Clarification:

        I’ve utilize the following imdb shortcodes for awhile now.

        < ! --imdb--> and < ! --imdb-->

        via a manually updated page. http://jeffwithag.com/misc/my-movies/

        It works perfectly!

        Now recently I’ve decided to move my movie list into the database and query them. To query them I created a new template page and than wrote the logic to query and display them. http://jeffwithag.com/misc/movie-library/

        It works perfectly!

        Next, I tried inserting the imdb shortcode (for the popup windows) around my extracted moviename from the database, so that the movies listed on that second url will support your imdb popups like the movies listed on the first url does.

        No such luck. See link for more details.

        http://wordpress.org/support/topic/341295?replies=8

        Hope that better explains my scenario.

        Thanks,
        Geoff

      • I’ve not very much time to put in that, but had you checked the result for « $mymovie->name » ? Because the name is not the right parameter, instead it is the imdb ID number.

        Also, you shouldn’t call (if I remember right) imdb_external_call with an « echo »; it should display by itself data.

        To help you more deeply, I should go into a debugging process, which I cannot go through right now… :/

      • Yeah, I haven’t had much time to look through this either. Work and Christmas has been keeping me busy.

        You stated,

        but had you checked the result for “$mymovie->name” ? Because the name is not the right parameter, instead it is the imdb ID number.

        Your shortcode takes the movie name given correct? And then somehow finds the imdb movie id number, to pull up all the related info? I mean your shortcode works fine in a post or page when I use it to surround a movie name. But outside of a page/post content (in a template) I believe I need to call the function directly. I mean I think I need to locate your shortcode assignment, and call the function it references. Again, these are just assumptions, this is new territory to me. When I get more time I’ll take another look and if I figure it out, I’ll post my solution.

        Thanks and Happy Holidays!
        Geoff

  39. Actually, it looks like a bit more than just the plot is missing from the thing when using proper formatting (again, popups not proper format):

    * Quote(s):
    * Plot(s):
    * Goof(s):
    * Tagline(s):

  40. This is an absolutely great plugin, but with a few problems.
    Firstly, this does not get the ‘plot’ from IMDB at all (yes, it’s enabled, and yes, I’ve cleared the cache), regardless of whether the movie (or show) has a plot in it. Instead it just returns « Plot(s): », nothing more.
    Secondly, an air date (or release date) would be great to add to this plugin.
    Everything else looks great, but that first problem is pretty bad.

    • The plot is actually working; I still have checked, it does work! Please check on imdb website if there is a plot available for movie(s) you want to display plots’. If it is the case, please give me the movies’ names, I’ll try on my own.

      Air date? Why not, I’ll think about it 🙂

    • Well, can’t reproduce your issue on my own.

      Regarding « The Vampire Diaries », there is no issue at all; if you check imdb website, you’ll see there isn’t any plot summary. IMDb link transformer cannot get what doesn’t exist.

      But regarding « Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen », a plot exists, as weel as quotes, goofs, taglines. Since then, it should actually display these informations… and it certainly does :
      http://www.ikiru.ch/blog/wp-content/files/imdblt-testplot.jpg

      What IMDb plugin release do you use? How do you display your movie (I mean, what name do you enter exactly inside (imdblt)(/imdblt) tags)? When you write you cleared the cache, did you clear the entire cache, or only part of it?

      I don’t think it could be a plugin collision issue (since parts of information is displayed), I hardly see what it could be… except for movies which doesn’t provide information you want, it should display them!

      • RE: Vampire Diaries
        The plot is most definitely there, see http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1524499/ . It’s even pulled from the database (see http://www.tvonthebrain.com//wp-content/cache/imdb/test.html) , but it’s NOT put into the system ( see http://www.tvonthebrain.com/new-shows/3177-the-vampire-diaries-1×07-haunted.html)
        I know the information is there, your plugin is pulling the information from IMDB, but your plugin is NOT putting said information into the actual post!

      • Please do feel free to delete those links after visiting them. My intention is not to advertise here, but to point out the problem with the product .

        I still think this is a great product, but there are undeniable bugs here. As far as how I’m calling the plugin? Very simple. Using(again) the vampire diaries as an example:

        [imdblt]tt1524499[/imdblt]

      • RE: Vampire Diaries
        The plot is most definitely there, see http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1524499/

        OK, you’re right. Was looking on http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1405406/, which doesn’t include any plot summary on its page.
        Making the test with tt1524499 actually does work… on my side.

        It’s even pulled from the database (see [webpage]) , but it’s NOT put into the system ( see [webpage])

        First link is not found (404).

        And again… what imdb link transformer release do you use?

        This may work in the horrible ajax environment but does NOT work in a real environment. Why should users have to click multiple links to get the information they requested?

        What exactly are you talking about?

      • http://www.tvonthebrain.com//wp-content/cache/imdb/plot.html should be the second link, sorry, forgot I moved that. This shows that the plot information is definitely being carried over from the example (again, using Vampire Diaries), but it’s not actually putting it in the system.

        As for the comments re: ajax, they speak for themselves. When a user clicks on a link for something, the user shouldn’t have to click anywhere else for it. That is just wrong.

        The ajax example merely links to a title where you have to click, then click on the section you want, as opposed to just doing what you’re supposed to be doing in the first place, and displaying the requested information.

  41. Hi, after activating the plugin, I am not able to see the same on settings.How do I configure it ?Is there any way I can display it on the page ?
    Thanks

    • Please, be more specific. What exactly don’t you see in settings? What do yo mean by you’re not able to see « the same »: do you see an IMDb menu, though, but incomplete? If incomplete, what does it miss? Also, if after activation, you cannot access imdb settings at all, provide complete plugins activated list (should be an incompatibility issue).

      And… what do you want to display on the page? Widget? Into the post? Yes, for both of them.

  42. can work script without wordpress? ,

  43. Hello,

    There is something wrong with the imdb styles on this page: http://pertutti.ro/trailers/?s=chance.
    Works fine on this page: http://pertutti.ro/trailers/cloudy-with-a-chance-of-meatballs-2009-trailer-2-hd.html

    Any idea ?

    • Yes, I’ve an idea. It is related to the way WordPress handle search pages. First link is indeed a search page, a page meant to render only a small portion of the whole thing. Thus, code is simplified, and many values aren’t displayed.

      In your search.php, replace

      the_excerpt()
      with
      the_content()

      You won’t have anymore a post resume displayed, but you still can split posts by adding <!--more--> tag.

  44. how can i copy only big photo URL to my custom field « bphoto » ?

    • Well, it depends where is your custom field…

      If it is located into the widget part, unselecting all widget informations (that means selecting « no ») but « picture » (which has to stay on « yes ») should be enough.

      It it is located into the post itself, use the exec-php plugin and, after putting widget options to no except the picture one (as prior solution), include the code

      < ? phpimdb_external_call ()? >

      into the post (inside the custom field bphoto).

      If the custom field is one of wordpress posts custom fields, there is no way to achieve that.

      • it is located in post. but i need only photos URL address. so i read all your comments in this post. and i found a solution:

        i added this code in functions.php :

        function external_imdb () {
        global $imdb_configs_values, $wp_query;
        $filmid = $wp_query->post->ID;
        $imdballmeta = get_post_meta($filmid, ‘imdb-movie-widget’, false);
        include ( ‘wp-content/plugins/imdb-link-transformer/inc/imdb-movie.inc2.php’ );
        }

        i edited « layout part » in imdb-movie.inc2.php like this :

        photo_localurl( $imdb_configs_values[imdbphotosize] ) ) != FALSE){
        echo $photo_url ;
        } else{
        echo  »;
        } ?>

        and i used photo slide in my home.php, so i used

        <img src=" » alt= » » style= »border: none; » width= »155px » height= »123px » /> for every post’s photo.

        but i have a little problem, it is the same for every post in « photo slide show ». how can i fix it, or have you got a another solution ???

        my site : http://www.vizyonkolik.com

      • What is the « little problem »? Can’t see what’s your issue. If by « it is the same for every post » you mean that pictures *size* are identical for every post, just remove width and height values from img tag?

  45. Kuif,

    Please try new development release and kindly report your experience.

    http://downloads.wordpress.org/plugin/imdb-link-transformer.zip

    • hi thanks..

      I just tried it, deleted the old one, deleted my cache… but i dont get the point of this new development release? it’s exactly the same? same small unreadable poster…

      what is diferent on this release?

      • ok found « Whether to display the thumbnail or the large image cover »….
        but all I get is just the tiny thumbnail…

      • Did you select « Display only thumbnail » to « No »?

        I can’t reproduce your issue. I tried with cloverfield movie, and everything works perfectly…

        Do you use the plugin via the widget or do you enclose it inside a post?

      • yes i switched it to « no »

        But i still see that unreadable thumbnail, not the large picture.
        I use the plugin inside the post

      • I need more information:

        1/ What are the plugins you use? Have you tried to deactivate them? Don’t see how it could be in conflict, but who knows?
        2/ If you check /wp-content/cache/imdb/images folder, do you find files named XXXXX.jpg and others XXXXX_big.jpg?
        3/ Check you css theme properties. It could happen you had a property restraining the size of the picture.
        4/ If instead of using the plugin inside the post, you use the widget, do you notice the same behaviour?
        5/ Do you use Exec-PHP plugin? 4.9 release?
        6/ BTW, could you post your website adress? I could straightly verify the code.

      • it just doesnt work!

        1/ What are the plugins you use? Have you tried to deactivate them? Don’t see how it could be in conflict, but who knows?
        ==>> i deactivaded ALL plugins, still no big poster

        2/ If you check /wp-content/cache/imdb/images folder, do you find files named XXXXX.jpg and others XXXXX_big.jpg?
        ==> no, only xxxxx.jpg, nothing with xxxxx_big.jpg… it only loads the small posters.. thats what i’ve been saying all along

        3/ Check you css theme properties. It could happen you had a property restraining the size of the picture.
        ==> my css is fine, even without css, it doesnt even get the large poster from imdb

        4/ If instead of using the plugin inside the post, you use the widget, do you notice the same behaviour?
        ==>> Widget doesnt even work, but i dont care about widget, i need the inside post link, and fact is it doesnt retreive the big images, they never show up, neither in my cache

        5/ Do you use Exec-PHP plugin? 4.9 release?
        ==>> yes

      • ==>> Widget doesnt even work, but i dont care about widget, i need the inside post link, and fact is it doesnt retreive the big images, they never show up, neither in my cache

        Well, I help people that want to help me to help them. Don’t need to be so rude, man. If I ask about widget behaviour, it is to debug your issue, not to force you to use widget.

        If you give me your website adress, as previously asked, I’ll maybe have a look.

      • Did you

        add the key « imdb-movie-widget » to the custom field from your message *and* the name of the movie you want to be displayed on your sidebar to « value »

        ?

      • yes i did.

        but click on the blue link « quarantine »

        Thats the in post imdb link; check the output of the script. In the new window, it just shows the small poster. No big-poster. And i checked the cache/images folder,.. only small poster images there. The script doesnt retreive xxxx_big.jpg’s

      • I think there is some misunderstanding here: the link around a movie’s name, made by <!–imdb–>nameMovie<!–/imdb–>, doesn’t need Exec-php nor imdb-movie-widget value. Acually, you use Popup function, not the integration into a post.

        Ok, the bad news is I won’t make the change into the plugin, since I think is it a too specific demand (depending if more people want it, I could change my mind). The good news is modifications are quite easy to take in charge:

        1/ Open inc/popup-imdb_movie.php and change
        $movie->photo_localurl()
        by
        $movie->photo_localurl($imdb_configs_values[imdbphotosize])
        2/ Open inc/popup-imdb_person.php and change
        $movie->photo_localurl()
        by
        $movie->photo_localurl($imdb_configs_values[imdbphotosize])
        3/ Be sure to have selected the « Display only thumbnail » to « No »

        It should do the trick.

      • actually, if it works i will need to use the in post integration because all i need is the big poster to show as image in the post…

        so how to tweak to the script to have it work with an in posst integration, displaying the big poster?

  46. Hi Kuif,
    Just asked to Izzy (librairies author) if it would be possible.
    I’ll let you know about his answer.

  47. Hi!

    Thanks for this plugin!

    Question:
    Your script gets the movie poster,.. but its actually the small (almost unreadable!) movie poster on the movie-pages at imdb.
    But I actually need the script to get the normal sized (readable) poster, wich you get when you click on imdb’s small movie poster… for example:

    I need this one: http://www.imdb.com/media/rm3062796288/tt1060277

    in stead of this one: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1060277/

    How to make this possible?
    Please help, thanks in advance

  48. Slav: could you provide your webadress?

    Chris: If this is a wordpress page, it *could* work; try to include the movie name into imdb tags, that is

    <!--imdb-->nameMovie<!--/imdb-->

  49. Hi again =) Thanks for the quick reply and great work.
    Just a quick question, I don’t use the widget at the moment I have a page with all the Blu-Ray’s I own in a list style format. Is there a way to make the feature work within the tags?

    Thanks for all your help in advance

  50. Great idea and nice plig in.I really like it and would be happy if I could install it on my blog/site. Is there any requirement about the width of the side bar? I use template theme with left and right sidebars which are not that wide – the widget didn’t work. I changed the theme to such with one side bar-ther it works..or there is something else in the code of the side bar?Actually, after I put the widget I have to build my side bar because nothing from the one in the theme template is left /i.e. sidebar.php looks like is not « called »…

  51. Chris, I get an answer from Izzy: there is a bug (actually, it is more a malfunction). But since the bug is on the IMDb side, Izzy could not do anything.

    However: I released a new plugin version, which should help you to bypass this issue. Instead of using « imdb-movie-widget » key, use « imdb-movie-widget-bymid » and put in the value field the imdb id (you can get from the adress bar when you look for a movie on imdb website. IE, for Cass, imdb id is « 0954981 »). For more information, please look at readme file included.

    Download the beta release from http://downloads.wordpress.org/plugin/imdb-link-transformer.1.1.13.5.zip and report any bug you may encounter. Report also if it works 🙂

  52. Hi Chris,

    This is undoubtedly a bug. I’m going to contact Izzy (imdb classes’ author).

    Stay tuned (even if holidays will slow up the debug process)

  53. Great script!
    Just one thing though when I link a movie such as Cass which is a british movie it comes up with Casino Royale is there anyway to input the link manually?

  54. Great plugin,thanks for sharing.i will use it for my new movie site…again thanks…

  55. Hello,

    Good plugin, but I am wondering how to prevent the widget showing up in the sidebar on pages. For example, it appears on my About page, my Contact page and my Tags page.

    Thank you.

  56. Goog plugin, very helpful and easy to use, thanks.

    Evan: are you sure a plot exists? Check on imdb if a plot has been inserted.
    blandine: it is a known issue (check the faqs), for which there was no (yet) solution. Look for release 1.0, which should be released in a matter of hours.

  60. I found the option to show the plot but it’s not showing up inside of the post. « Plot » is now listed in the post but that’s it.

  61. Hi,

    It works fine for me but it’s not showing all the contents from IMDB.
    I mean, if I click on crew from a movie, then it shows only the producers, director and writer, not the whole list.

    another example, for an actress, it shows her name, date of birth but then her movies are not showing. Is there a way to fix this?

  62. Hi Psykotik, just updated to 0.9.5. Now rating is displayed in the widget. Thanks again for this fast bugfix!

  63. Download release 0.9.5 again;
    Remove completely previous release;
    Upload new plugin to your server;
    Click on « reset setting ».

    Does it change anything?

  64. I’m sorry, I don’t see anything….

  65. Did you go to « widget options »? You should find this new option almost at the page bottom.

  66. Thanks, I updated to 0.9.5 however; I do not see any options about including a plot or not.

  67. evan and pr3view, please update to last version (0.9.5) and report if everything’s working.

  68. Hi Psykotik,

    thanks for your fast reply. I also tried to look through the source code and classes but didnt found anything that would cause the problem. But I´m no programming expert 😉

    I hope you´ll find a fix for this bug soon, cause the rating is the most important thing for us 😉

    greetings!

  69. I am using the plugin to show up inside of posts… using the php plugin….

  70. Evan: is there anyway to include the plot?
    Not yet. Sound quite huge text to include into the widget, doesn’t it? Do you see a practical use?

    pr3view: rating not working
    Thanks for the report. It looks like rating function is bugged. I’m trying to sort how to patch that. The issue is no data is returned. Stay tuned.

  71. Again me,

    i just checked every settings. In the Widgets-Config « Rating » is set to « Yes ». But i checked the config.php now and it said:

    « ‘imdbwidgetrating’ => false, »

    I changed this value to « true » but still the rating isnt displayed in the widget.

    Im using v.0.9.3 of your Plugin.

    Thank you for support.

  72. Hi, nice Plugin, but it doesn´t show the imdb rating in the widget. Do you have any Idea why?

    I´m using WordPress 2.7.

    Just look here, it doesnt show rating: http://dvd-preview.org/?p=14

  73. is there anyway to include the plot?

  74. comment #21 – it worked, just need to modify the heck out of the css.

  75. ok you can forget my previous message. I finally solved the problem. For people who might have the same one, I had to edit the config.php file. and add the /wordpress to the line ‘imdbplugindirectory’.

    I had to do it on my computer own text editing and then upload the file. When I tried to do it from my webserver text editing, it was also saying saved but in fact it wasn’t.

    #————————————————–=[ Basic ]=–
    ‘blog_adress’ => get_bloginfo(‘url’),
    ‘imdbplugindirectory’ => get_bloginfo(‘url’).’/wordpress/wp-content/plugins/imdb-link-transformer/’,
    ‘imdbwebsite’ => « akas.imdb.com »,
    ‘imdbcachedir’ => ABSPATH . ‘wp-content/cache/imdb/’,
    ‘imdbphotoroot’ => get_bloginfo(‘siteurl’).’/wordpress/wp-content/cache/imdb/images/’,
    ‘imdbphotodir’ => ABSPATH . ‘wp-content/cache/imdb/images/’,

  76. Hi, I installed your plugin but it doesn’t work. I think it comes from the fact that I cannot change the URL in the IMDB settings. I can change them all EXEPT the one where it’s asking where the plugin is installed. It is in …wordpress/wp-content/plugins
    but everytime I change it and save it, it says « saved » but when I check it isn’t changed. All the others have worked out.

    so I tried to move the plugin to the default URL (…/wp-content/plugins but it doesn’t work. Everything will work, but when you click on the link, the pop up window shows nothing at all.

    You can check it out here http://onsetonair.com/s-z

    Hope you can help.
    tks

  77. Hi Psykotik,

    Thanks for your response. To double-check I reactivated your plugin, and sure enough both the index and single pages are having their link styles (and possibly attributes?) altered by the plugin.

    The plugin affects the tags by centering them and changes ALL a:hover on the site to DD6900. I suspected the plugin may have called to an opposite .css file that you included that overrides my site’s css for link values but haven’t had a chance to check through your plugin files yet (extremely busy).

    For ‘permalink problem’, I mean since installing the plugin and removing it the site’s normal content page urls have not indexed by GOogle. It’s a very decently ranked site, so it’s not the fact that it doesn’t get regularly crawled.

    I was curious if your plugin attempts to set a ‘no-follow’ or another method for IMDB links? If so, that could create a problem as it is definitely already affecting link color and structure.

    Look forward to your response. Thanks.

  78. After removing the plugin, style returned to how it should be BUT my site permalinks now also do not index correctly within Google.

    Does this IMDB plugin alter any files that we should know about?

    No, it doesn’t alter any kind of file. If WordPress would allowed such kind of behaviour, it will be a serious security breach!

    Could you describe more precisely what you mean by your « site permalinks now also do not index correctly within Google »? Google index what he sees, and sometimes uses an site index (when provided). But if your permalinks are working when you browse your website, it should be indexed by Google. Don’t think I could be of any use, there…

    Nice plugin, but when I installed it affected the CSS on my homepage. Immediately all title link attributes were switched () and switched to an orange font on hover, as well as aligned text center.

    What causes this behavior? Why does this plugin modify these things?

    From the readme :

    « check also /css/imdb.css if you want to customize default theme. »

    Therefore, inside this very file, change according your tastes (or remove) the part :

    a:hover {
    color: #dd6900;
    /* text-decoration: underline;*/
    text-decoration: none;
    }

  80. Evan,

    It should be possible to achieve that if you
    1/ install an executable php plugin (like this one)
    2/ put inside your post the function imdb_external_call() (and by adding imdb-movie-widget field, of course).
    3/ Modifying imdb.css according to your wishes

    Though, I never tried by myself. If you succeed, please report!

  81. Is there anyway to list the imdb info inside of a post instead of in the sidebar?

  82. Jenn, code you enter is invalid. You must use

    <!--imdb-->nameMovie<!--/imdb-->

    In other words, you have to double hyphens.

    But… let’s say… why don’t you use the button installed by the plugin, in your panel writing area? It will automatically insert the good code, don’t hesitate to use it!

  83. I deactivated all the plugins with the exception of this one and it still didn’t work. Am I entering the code correctly? I will put a screen shot picture in the URL section of this comment so you can see.

    Admin: here is the gif image

  84. Jenn, try this: unactivate all plugins but Imdb, and look if it works. If it does, activate one by one the plugins, until detecting the culprit.

    Let me know about results.

  85. Yes, I put the tags around the movie name and nothing happens. I am using WordPress 2.7 and the following plugins:

    Maintenance Mode
    All in One SEO Pack
    Google XML Sitemap
    Secure and Accessible PHP Contact Form
    Spam Karma 2
    Wp-Ads
    Wp-Affiliate

  86. @Jenn: When you say « I put Movie Name Here nothing happens », do you mean you put imdb tags around the movie name or you put the movie name into « imdb-movie-widget » field?

    BTW, could you list the plugins you use?

  87. This plugin isn’t working on my blog. I am using wordpress 2.7 and when I put Movie Name Here nothing happens. It’s just the text, there’s no link. The plugin is installed and activated.

    Any suggestions?

  88. Thanks for the comment.

    I don’t see the point of making a light version, as you may unactivate widget or popup by… not using them!

    About your picture: it should be possible to do that if you
    1/ install a executable php plugin (like this one)
    2/ put inside your post the function imdb_external_call() (and by adding imdb-movie-widget field, of course).
    3/ Modify imdb.css according your wishes

  89. You did really good job my friend. Getting information from imdb is very hard work nowadays.

    Is it possible to make a light version of this mod ? Without pop-up’s and widgets. Only some basic information inside of the post ? Here is a little example.

    http://img411.imageshack.us/img411/3513/66847252uj5.jpg

  90. Thank you for your website 🙂

    Hope you had a good day and thank you again!

  91. Or try development release, and add anywhere to your sidebar

    imdb_external_call ()

    should do the trick.

  92. add a function to your functions.php file in your template directory (or create one if you don’t have any)

    function external_imdb () {
    global $imdb_configs_values, $wp_query;
    $filmid = $wp_query->post->ID;
    $imdballmeta = get_post_meta($filmid, 'imdb-movie-widget', false);
    echo "< div class='imdbincluded'>";
    include ( 'wp-content/plugins/imdb-link-transformer/inc/imdb-movie.inc.php' );
    echo "< /div>";
    }

    (space added to html tags, remove it)

    and add somewhere in your sidebar :

    external_imdb ();

    It should work.

  93. Ah, it works!!! However, I’d like to add it manually to a sidebar instead of as a widget – something with the theme I am using – only the left sidebar can have widgets and the right side can not… but if I can add the imdb code to the right sidebar… that would be perfect.

  94. Awesome, I’ll have to check it out. Being able to add two listings is key to make my site work the way I’d like it to.

  95. BTW… I perfectly understand why you want to restore Sly’s fame, but.. Schwarzenegger’s? Does it deserve such a honor?

    (found a typo on your website: his name spell « Schwarzenegger » not « Schwartzenegger »)

  96. Hi Evan,

    Let me know if this development release fulfil your wish, and please report any bug you may find.

    However, be careful with adding several imdb fields in your posts; the process can badly slow down your pages… note you could install a cache plugin, to bypass this issue.

  97. Cool plugin, now what if I wanted to list two movies using the sidebar widget? The site I run is arnoldversussly.com and I’d like to stick two movies on the sidebar when using one of our movie battles…. I added two custom fields but the second one showed up… not the first.. is this possible?
